New clothing line promotes life

Monday, July 16, 2007

“We reflected on how blessed we are that Our Lady, The Blessed Virgin Mary, said ‘yes’ to God’s call...even though her life was filled with hardships,” is Karen Warfield’s answer to anyone inquiring about the motive behind a new marketing project.

Warfield, of Kingwood, is heading a movement that she claims is a validation on how precious life is in this world.

Her solution is promoting ‘Pro-Life’ inspired clothing for infants, called Teenie Weenie Witness Wear.

The line consists of three sizes of ‘Onesies’ ranging from zero to nine months.

‘Onesies’ are the name of popular one-piece infant dressings.

The group also sells small T-shirts, blankets and caps with the ‘Pro-Life’ stamp on them.

Mothers or anyone interested can also purchase a tote bag from this line.

Warfield said that the team has had this idea for a while, since 2004, though had a renewed drive after coming together to attend several Catholic conventions around the state, where they are very successful with the product line.

“It is a beautiful way to evangelize,” Warfield says, citing that the intention of this product is not to stir up the community.

“We do not want to make a political issue out of this, that is why Karen decided on using the Scripture,” said Donna Rueby, a fellow team member.

They said they started with just the phrase, ‘I’m Pro-Life,’ but decided to add relevant Bible verses to remind people about the amount of decision making involved with creation and natal care, such as, “Before you were formed in the womb, I knew you,” as found in the Old Testament book of Jeremiah.

They recognized how strong the ‘Pro-Life’ statement is, so they wanted to take a gentler approach.

The women say that their goal with this project is to change a culture of death to one of life.

“Christians should speak up,” said Warfield, regarding apathy confronting issues like abortion and the ‘right to life.’

She said that it is sad “how so many lives are not even given a chance to discover their purpose.”

“We feel that the good Lord is inspiring us to do this work,” said Terice Richards, another member.

Warfield hopes that this product idea can be a blessing for others by promoting goodness and encouraging healthy moral relationships between families.

The team says that they use the clothing as tools to promote the dignity and sanctity of the human person.

Andrea Campbell, marketing director for this project, said, “We are here to promote the beauty of life...it’s not about the money, it’s about the message.”

The group emphasizes that eventually funding and possible items may be available to donate to the capacity they would like for the community as they continue to plan and adjust for growth.

“We are currently in the middle of growing and are reaching out to more outlets,” she said.

According to Campbell, the product is still fairly new, but they have encountered several interested women across the state.

“Customers are so intrigued by them,” said Campbell about the clothing.

St. Martha Catholic Church-based group, Challenge Girls Club, is considering using the baby wear as a fundraising tool.

‘Onesies’ clothing is also being donated to a pregnancy center near San Antonio.

Currently, the clothing is sold at the Fullness of Truth Catholic Book Store in Kingwood and is soon to be available in the new Woodlands location of the Fullness of Truth store August 1.

The product line can also be found with prices listed at the Web site, www.geocities.com/witnesswear04.
