On April 28th, 2012, the Harris County Pct. 4 Constable Explorer post of North Harris County competed in the 23rd annual Law enforcement Texas State Explorer competition in Waxahachie Texas. The Pct. 4 Explorers, sponsored by Constable Ron Hickman’s office, competed against 122 other Explorer groups from across Texas in a series of police- response simulations challenges.

Though only their 3rd year to compete, the Pct. 4 Explorers earned a total of 5 titles including, First Place for Officer down, Second place for Arrest and Search, Second Place for Gang Activity, Third Place for Bomb scenes and the most prestigious award of TCEEAA “Post of the Year” for 2012. Pct. 4 Deputy Christina Coronado, advisor to the Explorers, helped lead her group to accomplish these lofty goals.

Being a law enforcement Explorer gives students an opportunity to experience life in the law enforcement profession. They are trained similarly to new police recruits and learn leadership skills, the importance of working as a team and respect for the law and the law enforcement profession. The Explorer program helps to seed an all around “Win” for the community and there are additional educational benefits to the students as well. The dedication and commitment by the

group, along with fellow advisors Cpl. Derek Thorworth, Deputy Tim Westmoreland and Deputy Melissa Griffin and others of the Pct. 4 Constables office contributed to the overall effort and success.

We are extremely proud of the Pct. 4 Explorers and their Advisors who participated in this year’s events. This takes an enormous amount of personal time, dedication and effort from the officers to help their Explorer group throughout the year and at competitions.
