KHS and KPHS soccer clinches playoff berths

The Kingwood Lady Mustang soccer team wore their No. 1 national ranking with pride last week.

The Lady Mustangs rolled past Aldine 8-0 to run their winning streak to 25 matches. Kaisa Marshall and Amanda Kim each scored two goals and Amanda Essay, Lauren Trappey, Dallas Brown and Clare Jakubowski add one goal apiece.

Kingwood will tune up for the playoffs on Friday, March 20, at 2 p.m. when they host District 14-5A champion The Woodlands in a must-see match of area perennial powerhouses.

The Kingwood boys soccer team increased its win-streak to nine matches with a 1-0 victory over Aldine. Michael Schwarz scored the lone goal with an assist from Matt Berens. The win lifted the Mustangs to 15-3-3 overall and 10-1 in District 19-5A play.

The Kingwood baseball team dropped a 15-5 decision to The Woodlands last week. The Mustangs slipped to 4-8-1 and host Bryan on Saturday, March 21, at noon.

The Kingwood Lady Mustangs softball team had their record evened at 9-9 after bowing 9-0 to Baytown Sterling. However, the Lady Mustangs previously opened District 19-5A play with a 20-1 victory over Eisenhower. Debi Risenhoover pitched a no-hitter.

The Kingwood Park Panthers soccer team tied Galena Park 1-1 early last week. Cody Lofgren scored a goal as the Panthers moved to 11-6-7 overall and 7-2-2 in District 41-4A play. The Panthers are headed to the playoffs and will play a tune-up match with Santa Fe at Turner Stadium on Tuesday, March 17, at 7 p.m.

The Kingwood Park Lady Panthers soccer team improved to 14-3-3 for the 2009 season and 9-0-2 in District 41-4A play with a 4-0 victory over Galena Park. Brooke Harper scored three goals and Payton Harvey added another. Kacie Black contributed three assists.

The Lady Panthers get ready for the playoffs with a game Tuesday, March 17, at 7 p.m. when they host Atascocita.

The Kingwood Park baseball team suffered its first defeat of the season, a 5-3 decision to New Caney, after starting the 2009 season with nine consecutive wins. The Panthers started the season by sweeping both the Splendora Tournament and the West Orange Tournament.

The Panthers host Crosby on Thursday, March 19, at 2 p.m. in the District 19-4A home opener. The Kingwood Park Lady Panthers softball team will host Dayton on Tuesday, March 17, at 6 p.m. in the District 19-4A home opener.
