City of Houston hands over new Kingwood Branch Library to Harris County

Monday, January 25, 2010

City of Houston Council Member Mike Sullivan and Harris County Commissioner Jerry Eversole will be hosting a public ceremony on Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. to celebrate the turning over of the new Kingwood Branch Library from the city to the county.

The City of Houston built the $8 million, 30,000-square-foot LEED certified building, and Harris County will be in charge of its daily operations. The new facility will accommodate 400 occupants and consist of a meeting room, children’s activity room, conference room and four small study rooms. The public will also have access to 107 computers and laptops for their use.

The Kingwood Area Republican Women’s Club donated Texas and United States flags that will be flown outside of the new library. Sullivan will present the flags to the parents of active military soldiers from the Kingwood community.

A grand opening ceremony for the new library will be held April 19 at 10 a.m., and will be open to the public. For more information, please contact Mike Sullivan’s office at 832-393-3008 or by e-mail at districte@cityofhouston.net.
