Name: Cheryl Donatto
Position: Creative Services Director
Biography:
Cheryl Donatto is originally from Raywood, Texas (near
Liberty) and graduated in 1976 from Hull-Daisetta High
School.
She attended East Texas State University (now known as Texas
A&M at Commerce) where she earned a Bachelor of Science
degree with double majors in journalism and photography with
a minor in printing in 1981.
"My original intention was to become a photojournalist, but
I was bitten by the 'printing bug' and fell in love with
typesetting and graphic design."
Cheryl was employed in that capacity with a publishing company in Albuquerque, New Mexico, from 1982 to 2001 . Upon her return to Texas in 2001, she moved to Humble with her sweetheart, Randall, and worked at a local newspaper as the Composition Department Manager. And then she got "the call" in January 2007 making her an offer she couldn't refuse!
Her artistic talents shine in the advertisements she designs and her great organization skills and attention to detail keep the graphics department running smoothly. She says that one of the most challenging of her duties is "dummying" the pages for the newspapers. This is where she determines how many pages each paper will have and where the advertisements are placed. "It's like a giant puzzle," she says. "Sometimes all the pieces just fall in place. Other times, I really have to work and rework the pages to get everything just right."
Her knowledge of the software used and of the prepress and printing processes help ensure that the pages are delivered to the printers correctly so that it prints properly. She also enjoys helping update and manage The Tribune's website.
"I'm excited to be with The Tribune Newspapers. It's a great opportunity to help develop a newspaper from its conception. I've learned so much in a short time and truly enjoy working with this wonderful group of people... serving these wonderful communities."
