The guest speaker at the May 22 Kingwood Area Republican Women (KARW) meeting will be Dr. Elizabeth Fagen, superintendent of Humble ISD.
The district educates more than 43,000 students and continues to grow. She is in her 11th year as a superintendent, having previously served as superintendent of the Tucson Unified School District in Arizona and the Douglas County School District in Colorado. In 2016, Humble ISD’s reputation for outstanding schools that serve the whole child attracted her to Texas.
Born and raised in Iowa, she earned a bachelor’s degree from William Penn University and an education specialist, master’s and doctoral degrees from Drake University. She began her career in education as a high school science teacher and progressed into positions including high school principal, executive director of high schools, and associate superintendent in Iowa.
In Humble ISD, Fagen led the district through Hurricane Harvey and its extended recovery. She serves on the board of directors for the Texas School Alliance, the Equity Center and the Lake Houston Area Chamber of Commerce, and on the advisory board for Humble Area Assistance Ministries.
If interested in attending the meeting to hear Fagen speak, RSVP to kingwoodrepublicanwomen.org by May 17 to reserve a place for lunch at Walden Country Club, 18100 Walden Forest Drive, Atascocita. The cost of lunch is $20.
