Get your tummy ready for some yummy treats in the Valley Ranch neighborhood. Letty Martinez, owner of Yummy Tummy Pastries in Humble, is excited to open her second location in Valley Ranch.
“It’s a dream come true,” said Martinez, who worked diligently with her architect and designer to create an atmosphere that not only draws people in to have a taste of her delicious pastries, but to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee or latte and visit with friends.
“I want people to be comfortable and enjoy their experience,” she said.
The grand opening was held Saturday, June 1 when the community stopped by to enjoy samples and take a look at the newest place to enjoy a cup of coffee and sweets with friends. Just like her shop in Humble, Yummy Tummy Valley Ranch offers made-from-scratch cookies, muffins, pies, tarts, petit fours, brownies, cake balls, cupcakes and more. Unique to Valley Ranch are the tables, chairs and padded benches for sitting and sipping. Coffee choices include a variety of lattes, cappuccino and mochas, as well as an espresso and house blend.
Martinez said her business is a tribute to her love of flavors and celebrations and she strives to cater to everyone’s individual tastes. Everything is made daily by hand, and one never knows what they might find in the bakery case. It changes each day; they do not use preservatives. There’s a sweets table that displays unrefrigerated items like cookies, muffins and bars. And of course, they do custom cakes for all occasions, including weddings. Those interested can check out their website at yummytummypastries.com to see the beautiful and unique cakes they have designed. Customers can also make an appointment to have a private tasting of five or six flavors in the quaint little, pink tasting room.
Martinez began her sweet journey more than 10 years ago when she suddenly found herself raising her four children on her own. In her spare time, between working and raising her children, she started baking cakes for people in her home. The orders started piling up, so she opened up her first shop in Humble and worked hard to build a strong customer base. Yummy Tummy Pastries is best known for its strawberry shortcake, tres leches and fondant cakes. They also offer monthly birthday cakes for offices and a unique bananas foster flambé table which businesses and families can use for their holiday parties or get-togethers. Martinez hopes to have as many loyal customers at her Valley Ranch shop as she does in Humble. A Roger, a regular, comes into the shop weekly to get his “Yummy Tummy fix.”
“Everything in the case looks so delicious. Each piece is truly a work of art. You don’t want to eat it, but you will, because it is so good!,” Roger said. His favorite is the raspberry mousse bite. “The taste of raspberry is incredible, and the crust is so firm,” he said.
Occasionally, he will treat himself to a chocolate eclair.
“It is so rich and chocolaty! There is real old-fashioned custard in here … like I used to have growing up in Maine. You don’t find custard in too many eclairs anymore,” he said.
His wife, Lori, cannot say enough about the carrot cake balls.
“They are so tasty and moist. There is so much flavor and lots of nuts,” she said.
Their daughter, Mary, is the cake buyer in the family. Anytime there is a birthday, anniversary or other special occasion, she rings up Yummy Tummy.
“Everyone in our family insists I order the cake at Yummy Tummy. Even their simple chocolate cake is amazing, and the bread pudding cake is to die for,” she said.
Martinez says her secret ingredient is quality. Her whipped cream doesn’t come out of a bucket; it is made at the bakery using all fresh ingredients, just like her Italian crème, French butter crème and cream cheese icings.
“I hope people will stop by my new Yummy Tummy Pastries in Valley Ranch and see what we can bake just for you. Bring along some friends and enjoy a special cup of coffee with a yummy sweet treat,” she said. Yummy Tummy at Valley Ranch is located at 21572 Market Place in New Caney, next to the Hallmark store.
