HUMBLE AMONG BEST PLACES TO RETIRE
A new study from SmartAsset ranks the 10 best places to retire in Texas, considering income and sales taxes, the number of local doctors’ offices, and opportunities for recreation and social life. According to the analysis, Humble ranked eighth among the top spots in Texas. Humble’s population is 11% seniors and was rated 38.20 on the ‘Best Place to Retire’ index.

GET WELL EXPRESS GRAND OPENING
A grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for Get Well Express and Weight Loss will be held Wednesday, May 15, from 4-4:30 p.m. at their offices located at 11411 N. Sam Houston Parkway E., Ste. 146 in Humble. The Get Well Express and Weight Loss Clinic is a family health clinic that handles urgent care and minor emergencies.

A grand opening and ribbon cutting for Luminous Health and Wellness will be held Thursday, May 30, from 4:30-5 p.m. at their new offices located at 13531 Will Clayton Pkwy, Ste. 700 in Atascocita. Dr. Diane Medina is the CEO and medical director of Luminous Health and Wellness, a physician-supervised obesity and aesthetic clinic. Fighting obesity is her passion due to its association with poorer health outcomes and numerous co-morbidities including diabetes, stroke and heart disease.

SAN JACINTO GROUNDBREAKING
Officials with San Jacinto College and McCord Development recently broke ground on the planned 57-acre San Jacinto College campus at Generation Park. The new campus, which is projected to open in 2020, will be the fifth campus, complementing San Jacinto’s North, Central, South and Maritime campuses, currently serving approximately 45,000 credit and non-credit students annually. College officials announced the deal and closed on the property in May 2015. The first phase of construction will feature a $26-million facility spanning 55,000 square feet, which will house general education and academic classes. Initially focusing on the educational needs of transfer students, the new campus will ultimately expand course offerings as further construction is completed.

Summerwood is getting both a new McDonald’s and a new Auto Zone. The McDonald’s will be located next to Starbucks at 12659 W. Lake Houston Pkwy. between the Sam Houston Tollway and Woodson Park Drive. AutoZone will be located in the Summerwood Village shopping center behind First Choice Emergency Room on Woodson Park Drive.

HOUSTON’S AIRPORTS EARN 4-STAR RATING AGAIN
Once again, Houston’s airports can boast two 4-star rated facilities and now boasts the most “plugged in” airport in the world after the 2019 World Airport Awards results were announced by Skytrax recently in London. Recognized as a leading global air transport-rating organization, Skytrax awarded William P. Hobby Airport a 4-star rating for the fourth year in a row, while George Bush Intercontinental Airport earned its second straight 4-star rating. Houston remains the only city in the western hemisphere with two 4-star rated airports. The only other cities in the world with two 4-star rated airports are Tokyo and Seoul. Also, Skytrax announced that Bush Airport received the inaugural “Best Airport Website and Digital Services” award as part of the Passenger’s Choice Awards. Based on the results of 34 million passenger surveys, Bush Airport was recognized for providing the best digital experience in the world to its passengers.

HEGAR DISTRIBUTES $705 MILLION IN MONTHLY SALES TAX REVENUE TO LOCAL GOVERNMENTS
Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar recently announced he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose-taxing districts $705.3 million in local sales tax allocations for April, 8.4% more than in April 2018. These allocations are based on sales made in February by businesses that report tax monthly.
