In the eve of election season when every topic seems political, Congressman Ted Poe’s message at the North Harris County Criminal Justice Association, NHCCJA, touched on a topic rarely discussed. “In our day in time, history is not touched upon as much as it should be,” said Poe. “It is important to remember our history.” These statements were made after his speech on Texas’ Independence. With all of the campaigns and elections surrounding the time of the meeting, Poe was reminded of the first few days of March and how significant they are to Texas history. He talked about the influential people that helped shape this state into what it is today. His charisma lightened the tragic tales of life’s lost. His speech reminded listeners to stop and reflect from time to time and not to take freedom for granted. “Anybody can be a Texan,” said Poe. “The people are unique here and the people make Texas the place it is.”
