The community is invited to get a free child I.D. kit, learn about summer camps and programs, and have family fun. At the CommUNITY Fair, sponsored by the Humble ISD Council of PTAs. The event will be held Saturday, April 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Oaks Elementary School. “I want parents to come out to the fair to learn about how to provide the best protection available for their children, what technology is available and to ask questions,” said Herb Gordon, chairman of the Youth Protection Committee for the Humble ISD Council of PTAs. The information offered at the fair meets the objectives of local emergency responders, local physicians, and businesses that provide summer camps and day programs for children. Included will be information on the latest tricks predators are utilizing to entice and molest children. There will also be free finger printing, free hand printing and free child identification kits. Among the broad array of health and safety topics that will be demonstrated and discussed are bicycle safety, mosquito control (West Nile), alcohol and tobacco awareness, car seat safety, safe school programs, lead paint testing on toys, and child nutrition. “We hope parents bring their children to learn about these important topics and to have a day of fun,” said Gordon. Popcorn, snow cones, cotton candy, sodas and water will be available at a reasonable price. There will also be a free Moonwalk, water slide and other games. “We also have door prizes. When the parents register they will be given a ticket for the drawing. We have four bicycles to give away and gifts for parents,” Gordon said.
