Over the last 18 months, I have worked extremely hard to reach out to each of you by knocking on doors, seeing you at events, taking to you over the phone, communicating via e-mail, and even through these letters in our local newspapers. My message has been consistent. I want less government regulation, better schools, lower taxes, more improvements to our infrastructure, to keep a pro-business philosophy towards government, and to protect our elections from fraud. This has been my message from the very beginning. Therefore, I am going to use the opportunity to outline my goals for next year and to the members of the District 127 community. As your next state representative, I will work to balance the budget by reducing wasteful spending and reducing the size of government. I will stand up for our right to carry and bear arms, protecting our Second Amendment Rights. I will work to improve education for our children, where we truly prepare our children for life. I will work to limit federal intrusion in Texas’ government. I will help sponsor legislation to improve election integrity through a true “VOTER ID” program. I will work with my colleagues to create jobs by incentivizing business and reducing the margin’s tax. I will work with my fellow conservative legislators with respect to redistricting, where we have boundaries that are drawn to protect the majority we as conservatives enjoy today in the Texas House of Representatives. I will work to reduce the burden we all face with high property taxes through the introduction of at a minimum an appraisal cap system, but will also work with my colleagues to create a system that is fair to property and business owners. I will work with my colleagues to secure the Texas border with additional resources of manpower and technology. Finally, but most importantly, I will be accountable, accessible and responsible to the community and represent this district to the very best of my ability. Although this seems like quite a task to enlist as a mere freshman legislator, I know I have the support of you the community to make it happen. I know you will hold me accountable to my actions, and make sure I am always looking out for the best of our community members. I will also have the support of very strong conservative legislators, like our State Senator Tommy Williams and State Senator Dan Patrick, who will always guide me in the right direction. I have also been joined by a long list of other strong conservatives who have made similar vows to their communities. District 127 has always had strong conservative representation and I intend to keep that legacy, but also improve upon it. I believe by sticking to the goals outlined above, I will continue to lead this community in the right direction. But as many of you know, I also believe that education is the future of our state, and that will always be my number one priority. As I have mentioned to you before in this very column, I will work to loosen the state’s grip on local school districts and allow them the opportunities to govern themselves. I will wash the education code of unfunded mandates, and return many of those needed dollars back into our communities where they belong. I will also work to create equity in our current funding system, where our community receives the minimum of what other surrounding districts receive for their children. Our children deserve to be treated equally, I will ensure this happens. I promise to legislate as strong, fiscal conservative and to stick to the values by which many of you know me. But now I must ask you for something in return. On Nov. 2, vote for Dan Huberty, your vote will afford me the opportunity to achieve these goals for you. Thank you and God Bless Texas. Dan Huberty
