An emergency call to report a fire went out from Coaches Sports Bar & Grill, 5304 FM 1960 E. in Atascocita, at 9:13 this morning.

The fire, believed to have started in the back, kitchen area, quickly turned to three alarms, eliciting mutual aid to the Atascocita Fire Department from Eastex, Aldine, Northwest, Porter, Huffman, Crosby, Sheldon and Humble fire departments. Two tower trucks were part of many in service, one at each end of the building.

Atascocita Fire Department Chief Mike Mulligan said at the scene the exact origin will be determined by the Fire Marshalls Office. Two of his firefighters, one male and one female, were transported to Kingwood Medical Center from the scene. The male was aided after a “Mayday” call went out from firefighters when egress from inside the building was cut off, according to Mulligan. He said the Rapid Intervention Team responded immediately and brought that firefighter out. The female, a lieutenant, had been inside fighting the fire, then she came out briefly and returned inside. Upon coming out the second time, she reported having chest pain. There is no word about either one’s status at this time.

A spokesman for the building’s landlord was also at the scene. He said that only two workers were present at the time of the fire and both were unharmed.
