The driver of an 18-wheeler was killed in a fiery crash on the southbound Eastex Freeway Friday, March 29. The crash happened at about 1 a.m. on Interstate 69, north of Townsen Boulevard in Humble. Investigators with the Humble Police Department said the driver of the big rig slammed into a guardrail, rupturing his fuel tank which ignited the cab. The unidentified driver was killed in the crash. Police closed sections of Hwy. 59 south between Kingwood Drive and Townsen Boulevard and diverted drivers onto the southbound feeder road. The closure impacted traffic for most of the morning on Friday. Officials were able to open the Eastex Freeway shortly before noon. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
