Welcome back to Out and About … where you can find out what’s happening in our community! WOW – Wonderful! Outstanding! Way to Go! A dictionary full of superlatives is needed to describe the Northeast Hospital Foundation’s first signature event, “In the Pink of Health” luncheon held recently at the Houston Airport Marriott Hotel. The grand ballroom was a glow of pink and soft lights, with delicious pink lemonade in place of iced tea, and most attendees (including the men) wearing pink! The event ran like clockwork; the food was excellent; the program inspiring! Ministry Team Volunteer Dorothy Wiley gave the invocation. Fox 26 Anchor, Melissa Wilson is just gorgeous, and she did a wonderful job as luncheon emcee. No one who was there will forget the inspiring, humorous, touching, and amazing Ann Jillian, who started her program by singing “Put on a Happy Face,” and ended it by singing “Wind Beneath My Wings,” with a spell-binding presentation inbetween. And of course, our dear Joyce White was honored for her work as Project Director for Project Mammogram, a Northeast Hospital Foundation program that provides mammograms and breast cancer services to women who can’t afford them. I would need the entire column to list the notables and “who’s who” of those in attendance; I’m sorry I can’t list them all. Hats off to the beautiful, hard working Host Committee who included Linda Aaron; Clo Berlin; Lynette Calfee; Cynthia Calvert; Carolyn Denman; Lynn Fields; Ellen Grayson; Alison Harrell; Sue Hearnsberger; Janet Huberty; Judy Luquette; Corinn Price; Nancy Shortsleeve; and Kristi Williams. And of course, no Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital event would be complete without the hard work of co-chairs Nancy Allen and Tom Broad. Other faces in the crowd: Norman and Kathy Funderburk; Roy Hearnsberger; Tim and Debbie Baker; Jack and Mary Lea Layton Taylor; Dr. Barbra Reischmann; Dr. Guy and Diane Sconzo; Mike and Rona Hardage; Edgar (Sonny) and Ann Robbins; Dr. Bobby and Beth Panzarella; Merle and Linda Aaron; Allen and Juanita Stegall; Sue Daniel; Kim Brode; Marjorie Landry; Rev. Don Wiley; Tiffany Bauer; Brenda McCain; Kathy Parks; Rachel Waite; Jill Curran; Gwendolyn Condeleo Crawford; Jim and Barbara Williamson; Tracy Zacek; and Robert Scarfo. We can’t wait for next year’s event! Another outstanding luncheon was that of the Humble Area Chamber of Commerce which held the rescheduled (after Ike) Teachers of the Year luncheon and award celebration at the Nathaniel Center. The teachers were brought to the luncheon via stretch limo buses; presented with lovely floral bouquets, had their pictures taken, and were the recipients of all the wonderful door prizes that day. It was all about the wonderful, well-deserving teachers! There were a full contingent of school board members, school administrators and personnel from Humble and Spring ISD’s, Lone Star College- Kingwood and Northeast Christian Academy. Congratulations to the Humble Area Chamber’s Education Committee and the Chamber’s Carolyn McCarty for an excellent event! Most people at the luncheon did not realize that Channel 13 Sports Director Bob Allen was quietly sitting at a back table with his sweetheart, Regina Gareceau, who was recognized as Teacher of the Year for Dekaney High School in Spring, and who also won the watch donated by Thomas Markle Jewelers as a door prize. Speaking of Thomas Markle Jewelers, Mothers Against Cancer recently hosted a sparkling event there to help raise money for cancer research programs at Texas Children’s Hospital. A highlight of the evening was Stephen Lagos, who was there to introduce his new Couture Collection. Faces in the crowd included: Eileen Booher with daughter Chris Parker and granddaughter Payton Parker (teaching Payton all about “bling” at a very early age); Cindy Brenza; Karyn Brenza; Bev Wright; Jean Rosnagle; Maggie LaBove; Robert and Nancy Dillard; Jacqueline Widman; Brenda Miller and daughter Tiffany. A VERY BIG apology to the Community Chamber of Commerce which was not identified as the golf tournament host at Oakhurst Golf Club Thursday, Oct. 16! Apologies to Andy Dill, Pat Chandler, and all the hard-working Community Chamber folks who made this such a successful golf tournament and dinner! It was a sunny Sunday afternoon on the patio at Chimichurri’s as Dave and Gwendolyn Condeleo Crawford co-hosted a “meet and greet” for Harris County Sheriff candidate Adrian Garcia, along with Claudia Vasquez from Mayor White’s office. Some of those enjoying delicious refreshments and the opportunity to meet the candidate “up close and personal”: Larry and Cynthia Calvert Shiflet; Anneshia Keller; Renda Little; Ann Marie Pires; Margie Riley; Captain Bobby Montgomery; Buddy and Lynn Townsend; Denise Shirley; Carl Pipes; Gabriella and Carmen Pino; Sevala Sadic; Denise Krieger; and Merrick Hamilton.
