The Kingwood Mustangs bring the curtain down on the 2018-19 basketball season at 7 p.m. Tuesday when they host Sam Rayburn.
Looking to end the season on a winning note, the Mustangs have dropped their last four games and are 6-9 in District 22-6A play (12-17 overall). Sam Rayburn has lost its last 12 games and stand 1-14 in district play and 11-20 overall.
The Mustangs played Atascocita close throughout on Friday before falling, 48-42, on the road. The Eagles, headed for the playoffs with a record of 11-5 in district play and 24-8 overall, grabbed an early 10-8 lead on Friday.
It was just a 3-point game at halftime with Atascocita holding on to a 20-17 edge. But the Eagles expanded the lead with a 14-10 advantage over the third quarter and took a 34-27 lead into the final eight minutes. And while Kingwood outscored the Eagles, 15-14 in the fourth quarter, it could not overcome the deficit.
The season finale on Tuesday will be the last game for six seniors on the Kingwood varsity roster. They include Ian Extra, Ryan Michie, Carson Cato, Kyle Burton, Lief Kindig and Carson Dick.
