Humble PD awards three exemplary actions

At the April 19 Humble City Council meeting, the Humble Police Department recognized three citizens with merit awards based on actions taken to save lives in the community.

Bond discussions heat up as Election Day draws near

The early voting period leading up to the May 5 Humble ISD school bond election has begun. The ballot reads as follows: “The issuance of $575,000,000 bonds for the construction, acquisition, and equipment of school buildings and the purchase of sites for school buildings, and the levying of the tax in payment thereof.” Voters must decide whether they’re for the bond or against it.

Not-for-profit agencies rely on donations, volunteers

 The question posed was “What do Lake Houston residents not know about your not-for-profit organization?”

The answers? The Lake Houston YMCA is more than just a gym. FamilyTime provides a 24-hour rape crisis center at Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital. Humble Area Assistance Ministries is supported by acoalition of churches and organizations. The Humble ISD Education Foundation receives funds each year pledged by teachers in the district.

It’s been five weeks since Texas Governor Greg Abbott visited Kingwood. What progress has been made?

One of the biggest challenges is jurisdiction and coordination of various government agencies. Part of the challenge in Kingwood is that one tributary might snake through land owned by Montgomery County, Harris County and the City of Houston. Who’s in charge?
