While some people were trying on swim suits or ski boots for the Humble ISD spring break, the Kingwood High School Bands were busy preparing for their trip to New York. Trip Chair, Christina Trotter (band parent) and Director Destry Balch, had been planning the details of this once-in- a-life time experience for over a year.
On Sunday, March 12, 2017 the Kingwood Bands performed in the world-renowned Carnegie Hall in New York City. After the concert they had a few days to enjoy the sites of the famous city. They toured the 911 Museum, visited the Statue of Liberty, attended two Broadway shows and topped it off with a snowball fight in Central Park after the 10” snowfall.
There were a total of 194 band students and chaperones who made this trip. Mr. Balch always strives to give the students an opportunity to play on a unique national stage. Past trips have included the Rose Bowl Parade, Lincoln Center, the Veterans Day Parade in San Diego and Pearl Harbor. When asked ‘How do you get to Carnegie Hall’, Mr. Balch responded with the famous quote, “Practice, Practice, Practice!!”.
