For 30 years, the Heartbeat Bears group, which is part of the Hi Neighbor club, has been a vital and successful entity. The group purchases over 2,000 teddy bears every year to distribute to ill children, the elderly and children traveling through the USO at Bush Airport in need of comfort. Special bears have also been used for the FamilyTime Christmas party and Mission Northeast.

Led by Tammy Holekamp, fundraiser chairperson, the organization has raised over $8,000 for upcoming distributions.

Ladies in the group will be taking 100 gift bags containing treats and stuffed animals to the residents of “Focused Care” Nursing Home in Humble. The elderly enjoy the attention and small gifts provided by Heartbeat Bears. The group also leaves numerous cases of popcorn for the staff to distribute during movie and game nights.

This organization meets once a month at Amedeo’s Restaurant for a luncheon meeting, plus meeting for fundraising opportunities and visits to hospitals and nursing homes.

To join the successful Heartbeat Bears group, one must be a member of Hi Neighbor, which is a social women’s club.
