Two accomplished artists, Future Akins and Rebecca Riley, will lend their treasures to the Lone Star College-Kingwood Art Gallery from July 29 through Sept. 2. The event marks the artists’ first joint exhibition in more than 30 years. Although they have often lived in different geographical locations, they continued to exchange ideas and propose challenges for each other, making it appropriate that they chose to title the show “Thirty Years of Conversations.”   “They selected the word ‘conversation’ because creating art is a dialogue between the artist, the creative act, the materials and the viewer,” said Kelley Revuelto, interim art gallery director the college.  Their paintings are a tapestry of conversations about life. While immersed in their creativity, the artists search for answers to personal or universal questions.  “Conscientiously, diving deeply into the issues that inundated their lives, whether creatively or concerning everyday life, was the quality that helped forge their friendship. Celebration life is about friendship between two women and the continuous and ongoing artistic and work experience,” said Revuelto. Two artists. Two friends. Two different strokes. “Future’s style depicts landscapes, sometimes figurative but usually with pretty colors. Rebecca’s style is realistic and she is a colorist; she understands the nuance between colors and the interaction between them. While their styles differ, they both express certain concepts in their work: faith, belief, compassion, personal relationships, spiritual relationships, personal pain, pain of others and internal issues which also have universal implications,” Revuelto said.  The free showing will be at LSC-Kingwood in the SFA Building. An opening reception will be held July 29 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. For more information, call 281-312-1534.
