HOUSTON (Sept. 8, 2017) – Many families of infant patients at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital lost their cars due to the flooding of Hurricane Harvey. Losing a car is bad enough, but several families also lost the car seats that their infants use on a daily basis due to water damage.
Since patients who require a car seat cannot be discharged without proper accommodations, a nonprofit organization called Abby’s Gift donated 25 car and booster seats to Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital in order to help families affected by the storm.
Abby’s Gift is an organization created to help families with a critically-ill or terminally-ill child, up to the age of 18, who are often on end-of-life care.
“Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital would like to give a huge ‘thank you’ to the generous donors from Abby’s Gift,” said Leigh Ann Cutting, a child life and expressive therapies specialist at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital. “It’s the little things like this that can make a huge difference in the lives of our patients and their families.”
