The Lake Houston Musical Arts Society has announced that the spring concert of the Kingwood Big Band will   be held on the Lone Star College-Kingwood campus March 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Student Conference Center.

 The band, under the direction of Alfredo Vélez, will feature music from the legendary bands of Woody   Herman, Maynard Ferguson, Joe Henderson, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis, Buddy Rich, Louie Belson, Thelonious   Monk, and Count Basie, and the contemporary bands of Christine Jensen and Kris Berg.

 Formed in 2004, The Kingwood Big Band is part of the Lake Houston Musical Arts Society. The 18-piece big   band is comprised of community members and professors combined with numerous music teachers and   musicians from the north part of Houston. The band plays jazz standards from the big-band era through   today’s contemporary music from leading jazz composers world-wide.

 Tickets to the concert are $20 for general admission, $15 for senior citizens age 55 and older, and $5 for   students. Tickets are available online or at the door.  Celebrating its 30th season, the Lake Houston Musical Arts Society supports both the Kingwood Big Band   and the Kingwood Chorale and Chamber Orchestra in partnership with Lone Star College-Kingwood. The   society also sponsors performances of professional artists and groups to fulfill its mission of enriching cultural   arts in the community.
