The Lone Star College-Small Business Development Center (LSC-SBDC) is accepting nominations for the 33rd Annual Small Business of the Year Awards which will be held Nov. 13 at the Lone Star College Community Building in The Woodlands.

“There is nothing small about running a business of any size,” said Miguel Lopez, LSC-SBDC executive director. “We are very happy to celebrate and recognize our small businesses and owners throughout the Lone Star College service area.”

Members of the LSC-SBDC Advisory Council recognize successful small businesses that have an impact in the local community and economy each year.

“The council represents area chambers of commerce, economic development organizations, financial institutions, the SBA and the media,” said Linda Head, LSC senior associate vice chancellor for external and employer relations. “It is an honor for Lone Star College to be able to recognize small business leaders each year.”

Winners are chosen based on leadership, entrepreneurial spirit, business growth and success, as well as a meaningful contribution to the community. Finalists are chosen from the LSC service area and will be selected from eight small business of the year categories: Woman-Owned Small Business of the Year; Veteran-Owned Small Business of the Year; Minority-Owned Small Business of the Year; Home-Based Small Business of the Year; Family-Owned Small Business of the Year; Small Business Owner of the Year; Small Business Franchise Owner of the Year; and Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

Each category will have three finalists and ultimately one winner will be named per category. The deadline for nomination entries is 5 p.m., Friday, July 19. To learn more and nominate a small business, visit
