Houston City Councilman Mike Sullivan told the Humble Area Chamber of Commerce Transportation Committee that he is working closely with the City of Houston and the Texas Department of Transportation to ensure that Kingwood’s traffic concerns will be met. “The widening of Kingwood Drive to six lanes will not happen,” Sullivan emphasized. “The intersection at Woodland Hills and Northpark will be improved. Because of the increased traffic from the growth at Kingwood Park High School, we are studying ways to mitigate the traffic problems at that intersection. I do not want to wait three or four years to try to improve the situation; it needs to be done now before the situation gets out of hand,” Sullivan said. “ And Northpark, between the Kroger store and Mills Branch, will be widened.” The Greater Atascocita Mobility Association reported that they are trying to open dialog with TxDOT regarding the widening of FM 1960 between Humble and Lake Houston. GAMA indicated that some of the studies done by the Houston-Galveston Area Council regarding traffic and growth projections are flawed. State Sen. Tommy Williams has pledged to support GAMA where possible. Everyone was reminded that there will be town hall meetings at the Humble Civic Center on Feb. 28, regarding I-69 and the Trans-Texas Corridor. TxDOT staff will be available to answer questions during an open house from 5 to 6:30 p.m., followed by a formal presentation and time for comments from the public. TxDOT wants to hear from Texans about the proposed recommendations. In additions to providing comments at the public hearings, interested residents can submit comments online or mail them to I-69/TTC, P.O. Box 14428, Austin, TX 78761. All comments must be received by March 19, 2008, to be included on the official record. For additional information, go to www.keeptexasmoving.com/index.php/trans-texas_corridor.
