Born in Porter and a resident of Humble since 1952, Andy Curry is running for re-election to Position 2 on the Humble City Council. Curry is currently finishing up his fourth term on the Humble City Council. "I want to be able to give back to the citizens of Humble and to continue improving things for them,” said Curry. “I’ve always followed the city council and when Byron Calfee decided not to run again, I chose to run.” After graduating from Humble High School in 1964, he served four years in the Air Force. He earned a master's degree in business administration from Southwest Texas State University. For 28 years, Curry worked for the Humble ISD school district in finance and computer operations. He retired in January 2003, but continues to consult with three different school districts. Curry and his wife of 16 years, Naomi, have four children and nine grandchildren. They attend Atascocita Baptist Church and in their spare time enjoy hunting, fishing, travel and antiquing. During the years that Curry has been on the council, some of the major improvements that have taken place are the Wilson Road drainage project, improvement of South Houston Avenue, the construction of a new courthouse and several other projects. Curry strongly supports the police and fire departments for the City of Humble. "I feel we have one of the finest police and fire departments for a city our size or larger,” said Curry. “I strongly support them.” One of Curry’s goals is to make sure that the police and fire departments are provided with the best equipment that they can get. If re-elected, he wants to continue improving on the city’s infrastructure and city services. "I feel my term on the city council has been very productive for the citizens and hope to continue,” said Curry. Curry is running against Howard Mittag. Early voting for the Humble elections starts April 30 and Election Day is May 12. Photo: Humble City Councilman Andy Curry is running for re-election to what would be his fifth term as a councilman.
