The Liberty Opry, known as the ‘Best Live Music Show in Texas,’ hosts family-friendly shows most Saturdays of the year.
They take place in the beautiful, historic Park Theater in Liberty which was built in 1938 and operated as a movie theater for many years before being renovated in the early 2000s. The in-house band consists of exceptionally talented and professional musicians and vocalists along with a variety of guests artists. The most popular styles of music played there are oldies, country, gospel and jazz with a few Elvis impersonators and comedians thrown in for good measure.
One of most outstanding shows of the year is their New Year's Eve program. This year it will feature Jivin' Gene Bourgeois and Donna B. The Opry is perfect for a family New Year’s Eve celebration, as it begins early and offers a fun, shared dinner at the end.
Bourgeois, known as a legendary “Swamp Pop” artist, recorded in the '50s and '60s. He had several of his songs hit the Top 100 chart. He has toured nationally and was inducted into the Louisiana Hall of Fame in 1993, the Museum of the Gulf Coast Music Hall of Fame in 1995, and received the Louisiana Hall of Fame Living Legend Award in 2003.
Donna B, lovingly known as “The Ebony Cowgirl,” has a voice that can get guests bopping in their seats or reminiscing about the days of old. A native of Texas, she sings both traditional and contemporary country.
Both artists will be talking to fans and taking pictures after the show. Doors open at 4 p.m. with the show from 6-9 p.m. and a potluck dinner to follow. Reservations can be made by calling 936-336-5830 although walk-ins are always welcome! The Liberty Opry is at 1816 Sam Houston Street; more information can be found at libertyopry.com/members.
