The holidays will be a happier time for some families in the Lake Houston community as Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital employees and volunteers donated more than 930 pounds of food to Humble Area Assistance Ministries (HAAM) during the hospital’s Ninth Annual Holiday Food Drive.
“This holiday season, we have more than 2,500 individuals who need our help to put food on the table,” said Millie Garrison, executive director of HAAM. “We’ve received more applications for assistance but fewer donations this year, which is why we are so thankful for Memorial Hermann Northeast and their generous contributions.”
In addition to donating food, Memorial Hermann Northeast employees donated more than $300 to HAAM to purchase food at the Houston Food Bank.
Memorial Hermann Northeast’s Partners in Caring (PIC) team coordinates the drive. PIC is an employee-run committee that looks for ways to support the vision of the Memorial Hermann Health System in the community.
“Coordinating community-focused events like the holiday food drive allows our employees to help advance the health and well-being of our community,” said Rhonda Dishongh, director of patient access and PIC steering committee co-chair at the hospital. “Many of our employees live in the Lake Houston area and are extremely dedicated to caring for our community both inside and outside of the hospital.”
The Memorial Hermann Northeast PIC Team also sponsors a back-to-school supply drive for Humble ISD as well as a summer food drive and holiday toy drive for HAAM.
