Creekwood Middle School Principal Walt Winicki followed up on his promise to sleep on the roof of the school once a certain amount of money was raised to help CMS families affected by Tropical Storm Imelda and, with the help of teachers, staff and community members, the monies continued to rise.
Students paid $1 to wear a hat or pajamas to school and the community contributed also. As of the end of the day, Wednesday, Oct. 2, over $5,000 was already raised in aid of his efforts. Therefore, that night, Winicki climbed up on the roof and slumbered under the stars for a great cause. More money came in over the next few days as well. Journey Church generously matched the funds raised in this outstanding effort. “This is always something that gets people to rally, come together and causes quite a good sense of commotion. Sleeping on the roof is both fun and crazy,” Winicki said.
