(Elsie) Jane Altom, 84, died on Tuesday, Sept. 27th in Houston, Texas after suffering complications from an intestinal aneurysm. Born Jane Brett (known as Elsie Jane) in Knoxville Tenn. to parents Elsie Retzlaff Brett of New Ulm, Minn. and Dr. Axel Brett of Upsala, Sweden, Jane attended the Univ. of Tenn. and the Univ. of NC at Chapel Hill for three years before marrying William Harvey Altom in 1947. After raising a family in Denver, Pennsylvania, Long Island, Cincinnati, and Houston, Jane returned to college to complete her BA in Psychology at the Univ. of Houston. She graduated in 1975. Later, Jane and Bill relocated to Tulsa and Fresno before retiring to their ranch near Cuero, Texas. Jane always lived life to the fullest and was actively involved in the Tri-Delta Sorority, as well as the League of Women Voters, and taught Adult Literacy. Jane was Sunday School Director at her church in Long Island and taught Sunday School in the many churches she attended. Jane's current residence was at Terrace Assisted Living in Kingwood, near her daughter Kathleen. Jane was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bill of 59 years in 2006, as well as her brother and sister, Dr. Roland Brett and Astrid Brett Shell, both of Knoxville. She is survived by her three children, Dr. Mark Altom and wife Mary Jo, Kathleen Treadway, and Teresa Altom Parsekian and husband Richard; grandchildren John Altom and wife Deanne, Ara Parsekian, Eric Treadway, Brett Parsekian, and Catherine Parsekian; and great grandchildren, Jordan, William, and Jake Altom. Two services will be held and friends are invited to attend memorial services at 1st Pres. Church of Kingwood on Friday, October 14 at 1 pm, or at 1st Pres. Church of Cuero on Saturday, November 5th at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to 1st Pres. Church of Cuero, 302 N. McLeod, Cuero Texas, 77954, 1st Pres.
