The Reverend Larry R. Kelley joined The Church Triumphant May 26, 2009. Reverend Larry R. Kelley celebrated 42 years of ministry in the United Methodist Church. He served from June 4, 1964, until his retirement on June 1, 2006. He was ordained in full connection with the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church South Central Jurisdiction. Reverend Kelley was born November 21, 1940, in Baytown, Texas, where he grew up. After completing public school, he attended Lee Junior College and Stephen F. Austin, where he graduated with a degree in Government and History. He then attended and graduated from Perkins Seminary at Southern Methodist University with a Masters Degree in Theology. Larry served his Lord and Savior at Churches in East Texas as well as on the Gulf Coast. His final appointments were First United Methodist Church, Humble, First United Methodist Church, Beaumont, and served as the Director of the Methodist Board of Missions and the Room to Grow Program in the Conference Office of the Methodist Center in Houston, Texas. The title "Reverend" was the perfect title for the man who ministered to all of his faith by the way he lived his life. He dedicated his life to serving the United Methodist Church and bringing people to know and accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior; that was his calling. All who knew Larry Kelley would say that he was a man who loved greatly and a man who had a servant's heart. Following his retirement, he continued to be involved in his community. He loved his church, he loved his family, he loved his nation. Larry Kelley was presented with the Meritorious Service Award in the Field of Political and Governmental Affairs. He served as Precinct Chairman for Precinct 0351. Reverend Larry R. Kelley passed away May 26, 2009. He is survived by his loving wife, Connie Sue Kelley; and his children, Jennifer Brierly and husband Greg, Larry Kelley, Jr. and wife Jennifer, Carol Ann Trimble and husband Larry, and Christy Kay Kelley; grandchildren, Sarah and Christopher Brierly, Jake, Erin, and Grant Kelley, and Tara Trimble, sister, Harriett Willis; brother, Joe Pat Kelley, and many loving church family and friends. Funeral Services were held for the Reverend Larry R. Kelley on Sunday, May 31, 2009, at 3 o'clock in the afternoon at the First United Methodist Church, 800 Main Street, Humble, Texas. Interment followed at Rosewood Memorial Park, Humble, Texas.
