Frances Spell Fabian

Frances Spell Fabian of Kingwood, Texas went home to be with the Lord on October 31, 2018. She had just recently celebrated her 90th birthday with a surprise party in which her family and friends travelled from far and near to share in her special day. In April of this year, she was honored at FamilyTime’s Mothers are Jewels luncheon.

Fran was born on September 30, 1928 in Charleston, South Carolina to Curtis A. and Florrie Spell. She was the second of four children, an older brother, Curtis A. Spell, Jr., and two younger siblings, Patricia Spell Gehlken and James T. Spell.

Being a teenager in Charleston during World War II placed her around many young men in uniform. She was partial to the sailors and married a handsome sailor from Texas that was stationed in Charleston. This marriage ultimately led her to Houston, Texas. She lived in the Houston area for the past 70 years.

During her lifetime, Fran was married three times. In 1948, she married Milton Hensarling and they had three children, Curtis “Chip” Hensarling, David E. Hensarling and Tamara Hensarling Paul. Her second marriage was to Marshall E. Pegues in 1970 until his death in 1978. That marriage brought two more children into her home, Randal Dean Pegues and Michele Pegues Englund. Her last marriage was in 1989 to Henry Fabian who predeceased her in 2012.

Fran was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Humble, Texas for more than 30 years. Time with her family was always special to her. She enjoyed watching college football on Saturdays and pro football on Sunday afternoons. She was always sure to watch the games of the universities her grandsons were attending so she could have an extra connection with them. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. During her lifetime she was blessed with many friends and she cherished the time she spent with family and friends.

Fran was survived by her children: Curtis “Chip” Hensarling and wife Vicki; Randal D. Pegues and wife Sherry, David E. Hensarling and wife Debra, Tamara Hensarling Paul and husband John, and Michele Pegues Englund and husband Karl. She was also survived by nine grandchildren: Robert M. Hensarling, Lyndsay Pegues Baxley and husband Scott, Mikal D. Hensarling and wife Shera, Tyler J. Pegues and wife Lauren, Matthew L. Hensarling, Taylor J. Englund, Kolton K. Englund, James R. Paul and Jarred R. Paul and eight great grandchildren: Caleb Hensarling, Tyson Hensarling, Reagan Hensarling, Peyton Pegues, Tessa Baxley, Holland Pegues, Carson Hensarling and Dean Pegues. She has one surviving sibling, her sister Patricia Spell Gehlken and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Fran was a devout Christian, loving mother and grandmother and a faithful friend. She will be missed by many.
