How beautiful has the weather been the last two weeks? I hope you’ve all managed to take the time out to enjoy it – having a meal al fresco or just staring up at that gorgeous Supermoon for a few minutes.
It was another successful night of fundraising for the Knights of Columbus at their annual Wine Tasting for St. Martha’s, co-chaired by John Simonetti and Mike Sladek (who also happened to be celebrating a wedding anniversary with his gorgeous wife, Rosie). The event was worked on by the many knights who volunteered as well as their wives, all under the coordination of Cheryl Johnson. The food, headed up by Michael Hvizdos and Davies Haines, was delightfully paired with wines selected by knight sommelier Duane Szobcak. Masters of Ceremonies Scott Villwock and John Buerkett kept the ball rolling all night, while Danette McMahon entertained with musical numbers. State Representative Dan Huberty and his lovely wife Janet gamely stood at the wine pull all night long and sold almost every single bottle. Enjoying the wine and food pairings, shopping at the silent auction, and trying their luck at the raffle drawings were John Darst, Robin Martinez, Phil and Shannon Macintosh, Diddy Muck, Vinny and Fran McConnell, Larry and Lynn Lucas, Mike and Lynn Cullen, Willie and Kelly Chesnut, Criss Daspit, Noreen McCarthy, Beth Chapman, Anne and Irene Purcell, Lisa Linney, Jodi Parent, Patti Schultz, Kevin and Michelle Campisi, Mark and Beth LeBlanc, Davis and Vanessa Haines, David and Toni Petruncio, Nelda Bernard, Leah Lane and Julie Stanton. Michelle Dykstra, Donna Ballard, Tim and Jo Daspit and Daniel Ledoux took tickets, sold tickets, spotted for the live auction, and cleared up the silent auction sales. Kudos to the rest of the committee for doing a fantastic job:  Marty Krupp, Jason and Jaclyn Dement, David Bellah, Bill Blum and Mark Wrobleski.
Bill and Cheryl Johnson had another full weekend the week after when their son Chris married fiancée Jami Hougen and had a fantastic reception at the Ivy Room in Chicago. Andrew Batterton, Chris’ best friend since they were 5-year-old rugrats in Kingwood, served as best man. Ryan King and Adam Ross served as two of Chris’ Kingwood groomsmen. Joining in the toast to the happy couple were Greg and Janine Batterton, Howard and Patti King, Erin King, Chelsea Batterton, Adam Altman, Mike Skupian, Tim and Jo Daspit, Danielle and Jacqueline Daspit, Bill Navarro with daughters Bella and Sofia, Chris’s sister Annie John and the bride’s parents, Luther and Tammy Hougen.
What great weather for the Humble ISD Education Foundation Golf Tournament at the Oakhurst Golf Club. It was a great chance to meet and chat with new HISD Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Fagen. And who can resist teeing off with some truly savory and zesty Bloody Marys stirred up with some bacon and shrimp? Enjoying the links were Christopher and Jill Curran, Jerri Monbaron, Lisa Doughty, Brent Colescott, Dixie Meynier, Steven Karpas, Corinn Price and Scott Brady.
How much fun was that Village Learning and Achievement Center gala? From the speakeasy pre-party at the Crawfords to the “Going Gatsby” themed gala, the Doubletree ballroom was full of glitz and glitter. Kim Brusatori, executive director, honored Scott Pignolet for 17 years of dedication to the Village Learning Center in so many different capacities – conception, board chair, director and governance chair. Guests included Dave and Gwendolyn Crawford, Jay and Sally Mincks, Dorothy Alspaugh, Sandy Lee, Cheryl Stevens, Rick Darling, Terri Stowers, Sal and Cristina Salazar, Michelle Parnell, John Sorrentino, Hector and Robin Martinez, Emily Dorman, Lawrence and Cher Pope, Devon Alexander, Kristi Williams, Wayne and Millie Garrison, Maggie Peterson, Lizzy Woodson, Kim Maxey, Mark and Marie Linabury, Dan and Janet Huberty, Corey and Ashanti Turner, Rick and Kelly Paull, David Jennings, Joe and Cathy Cleary, Stephen and Trish King, Scott and Peggy Pignolet and Greg and Marie Halvatzis.
