For the fourth year running, Jill Curran has been honored as one of the Top 20 agents in Kingwood by Re/Max. I don’t know how she does it, but between being a great mom, fantastic wife to Christopher, and traveling all over enjoying life, she still manages to be one of the most successful and hardest working agents I know. Congratulations, Jill!
In my business, engagement season generally goes from Thanksgiving to Valentine’s Day. We get the first calls from newly engaged couples right about then as they start planning their weddings. We are surrounded by the romance and happily-ever-after feels listening to everyone’s proposal stories and visions of their dream day. When friends of ours get engaged, it’s an even bigger thrill! Congratulations, Michelle Parnell and John Sorrentino! I was tickled to get the text – a picture of the ring on a dessert plate with “Will you marry me?” written in chocolate. I wish you two nothing but the best!
Some Danny and Geralyn Sullivan news – congratulations, Geralyn! After all the hard work, homework, classes, missed girly get-togethers, Geralyn will be graduating with a Masters in Education Administration with a Principal Certification from Lamar University! Humble ISD is lucky to have her on their team. Danny and Geralyn’s son Michael – oh, goodness, I remember him as a wee one still – has just turned 22. Happy birthday, Michael!
Another birthday greeting goes to Lexi Fields, daughter of Jack and Lynn Fields, who just had a giant birthday. Happy 21st birthday, Lexi! You are now casino-legal and I’m sure certain people are thrilled!
Mark your calendars for a few upcoming events:
Dr. Melissa Young of Face It! Med Spa in Town Center will be hosting a Family Time Women of Achievement social on Feb. 7. It being Valentine’s and all, A Grand Affair will be serving nibbles good for the heart and soul – red wine and chocolate treats!
Humble Area Assistance Ministries (HAAM) is gearing up for their Pillars of the Community gala which will be held at the Kingwood Country Club on March 31. Tickets are on sale, so make sure to get yours and help honor three special couples that have helped our community be one of the most giving and helpful – Byron and Ginger Bertrand, Darryal and Connie Chandler, and Frank and Marlene Kopta are our 2017 Pillars of the community. Congratulations, ladies and gentlemen! Also on HAAM’s calendar is Cardboard City on March 4, with proceeds benefiting homeless families through both HAAM and Family Promise of Lake Houston. Middle school and high school students throughout our area will be spending the night on the field at Turner Stadium and each one will be empowering a family struggling with homelessness. This event is not only fun for the kids participating, it is also humbling as it raises awareness. HAAM is sending out “save the dates,” so be sure to add it to your calendars.
Besides being Super Bowl season and all the craziness surrounding hosting it, it also happens to be Rodeo season. First up is the Humble Rodeo and BBQ Cook-off with all proceeds going to the Humble ISD Education Foundation. Board members Bodie Wagener, Lynette Calfee, Jerri Monbaron, Adam Foster, Ric Halbrook, Latisha Klentz, Larry Buford, Robert Comstock, Diana Quiroz and Heather Pena, together with an army of volunteers from the community, have been extra busy these last few months getting things ready for the first two weekends of February. There are lots of things and activities to entertain the whole family for both the BBQ Cook-off weekend and Rodeo weekend, so make sure to get your tickets early and, if you’re not on one of the cook teams already, sign up for Pit Building or get your kids involved in Kids Cook.
Hi Neighbor Kingwood always knows how to have fun and they, too, just had a rodeo-themed luncheon complete with boot scootin’ dance moves with ladies in cowboy hats, boots and bedazzled jeans. They also welcomed their newest members: Lynn Takacs, Karen Keating, Mary Baker, Donna Locke, Marsha Alspaugh, Mary Ellen Linder, Chris Shelly and Andrea Butler. These ladies are in for another treat at the next Hi Neighbor luncheon which is always a highlight every year – the Louisiana Connection celebrating Mardi Gras.
The Stilettos are back! On my calendar is the next Stilettos get-together at Amedeo’s with happy hour cocktails and fantastic door prizes like Michael Kors purses and flat screen televisions. This month’s program will feature Rebecca Mathews Image and Style Consultants of Houston with the inside track on spring fashion trends and what not to do in the spring season. This should be fun and enlightening.
I’m off to brave these rains – hope you all stay dry!
