Hope you all won big over Super Bowl weekend! Or at least had your fill of nachos and buffalo wings. And for those who partied and competitively cooked at the Humble BBQ Cook off, congratulations!
February is a big birthday month for a whole lot of dear friends of mine, so Happy Birthday to Mark Linabury, Cristie Herring, Wendy Alexander and Robin Chance! And these are only the ones with birthdays in the first two weeks of the month! We have to get together for a birthday club round of drinks.
FamilyTime held another amazingly successful Hearts of Gold gala debuting the year’s Women of Achievement. With the room decked in purple and gold and television news anchor Mike Barajas emceeing the event, everyone seemed to have had an incredible evening. For the first hour, two newly engaged ladies – Michelle Parnell and Jennifer Summer – were mobbed by well-wishers cooing over their shiny new bling. Congratulations, Michelle and Jennifer! Enjoying bites of fillet and asparagus were Larry and Cynthia Shiflet, Tom Broad, Charlie Campbell, Charles Wuest, Connie and Chuck Rountree, Bernie and Gina Remmes, Dorothy Alspaugh, Nancy Shortsleeve, Melinda Stephenson, Mitzi Vaughn, Terry and Sevala Benton, Dan and Janet Huberty, John Sorrentino, Matthew Hrncir, Michael Siropaides, Greg and Emmy Lee, Juanita Zavala, Karla Hatcher, Linda Dumas, Kurtz and Katie Stowers and Halene and Ron Crossman. Looking particularly stunning were Kathy Adkins, Lori Geiger and Liz Fagen - we have some lovely ladies in our community but these three knocked it out of the park that night! The auction following dinner was a huge success, made even bigger by a very generous donation by Twila Ilgen of The Astros Foundation. Twila donated a table for 10 at their next annual fundraiser, headlined last year by George Strait and this year by Diana Ross, worth $10,000 and then doubled the donation in the end so that both bidding parties could win. Then it was the Belles of the Ball’s turn in the spotlight. Congratulations again to this year’s Women of Achievement - Mari Omori, Jennifer Vandenbrook, Nancy Cozad, Pat Morlen, Mia Hoyt, Alexandria Houston, Susie Kumbarcja, Lanelle Johnston, Barbara Hemphill, Lana Walker, Megan Marietta, Laryssa Korduba, and Lana Scherr. Congratulations on a job well done to Judy Cox, Susan Meinholz, Tamara Paul and their army of volunteers!
Danell Fields hosted another fun and informative Stilettos get together at Amedeo’s, featuring stylist and organizer Emily Elliott. Kudos to Anita Frazier and Devon Alexander for playing living mannequins. Enjoying wine (vodka for some of us), appetizers and pasta were Denise Krieger, Cynthia and Donna Nix, Karen Cambio, Brenda Miller, Carrie Paul, Robyn Choiniere, a very fabulous-looking Bonnie Longnion, Diana VanHorn, Susan Kent, birthday girl Leesa Lackey, Mary Hubbard, Linda Copeland, Tracy Wilford, Tracy Stunja, Karen Fennel, Diana Rutherford, Carol Leigh Harvey (Happy belated birthday, Carol Leigh!), Sharon Lewis, Karen Boughton, Carol Covey and Diane Blanco. The big door prize winner for the evening was Judy Williams who won a Samsung Smart TV. Special thanks to Kelly Paull who gifted every attendee with a certificate for an oil change. Also in attendance was Kyle Campbell who is expecting another grandbaby! She promises to tell me what his name will be soon.
Right after the busy weekend of the Humble BBQ Cook off, the executive board of the HISD Education Foundation BBQ Cook off and Rodeo Committee - Bodie Wagener, Lynette Calfee, Jerri Monbaron, Adam Foster, Ric Halbrook, Latisha Klentz, Larry Buford, Robert Comstock, Diana Quiroz and Heather Pena – get to have another crazy busy weekend with the Humble Rodeo. This is always a fun event, so make sure you have tickets to enjoy both the rodeo and the concerts featuring Kevin Fowler and Stoney Larue.
The 8th annual Love the Pearls event at the Kingwood Country Club was another success. Attended by Cheryl Johnson, Jo Daspit, Robin Martinez, Karen Boughton, Donna Ballard, Gail Ireland, Annette Woods, James and Joan Clinton, Sara Nowak and Rose Sladek – who brought her daughters and granddaughter – everyone had a fabulous time learning about pearls and oohing and aahing over the beautiful jewelry. One of the big winners of the evening, Emily Dorman, won a beautiful brown pearl and Swarovski crystal ring.
Sorority results! Michelle Parnell couldn’t be happier to tell me that Ellie Hyler is a new Chi Omega at SMU and can’t wait to initiate her and pass on her pin. Danielle DeLeon and Caroline Wall also pledged Alpha Chi Omega recently at Baylor. Congratulations, ladies!
