Welcome, everyone, to Out and About – here to catch you up on what’s happening in the Lake Houston area!
I can’t believe we’re almost at Thanksgiving. Life around town is still not quite normal post Harvey, but it’s getting there.
The original Kingwood Air Conditioning and Heating recently celebrated a milestone 35th anniversary serving our community by throwing a blowout customer appreciation party. Considering that they were competing with four other area festivals, fighting the weather (incoming cold front), and had power issues to contend with (someone hit a pole and power went out all along Loop 494 around 4 p.m.), they had a pretty awesome turnout. Owners Stephanie and Kevin Marquard put on a great party while also taking up a collection for Harvey Relief. They shared Pappas BBQ with more than 150 of their customers, friends and neighbors. Guests were lucky to enjoy a set from Bill Wadhams of Animotion, which included their 1984 hit “Obsession.” Their DJ for the day, DJ Doug of Starz Entertainment Houston, kept the party going with more ‘80s rock and country. Sydney Barker with Barker and Co. was all over the place, photographing the event. The door prizes were a huge hit with the guests! Big winners of the night included Peggy Glaze who won a dining table set, Heather Brown who is going to enjoy her new crawfish boil set and table, Egil Berger will enjoy a painting by a local artist, Kent Hawley will certainly put his Planned Service Agreement to good use, Carol Riester may or may not be using her golf putter, Sydney Barker scored a Sundance Head autographed hat and CD, and Everett Blankenship won a Grizzly cooler. It was a fun day filled with food, music and games and felt like family coming together for a backyard barbecue (but only if your family also gave away awesome door prizes)! Happy Anniversary, Kingwood Air Conditioning and Heating!
Destin McIntosh (who I have known since he was knee-high to a grasshopper), son of our long-time friends Shannon and Phil McIntosh, and Hayden Duplantis were married Saturday, Nov. 4, in the gorgeously transformed backyard (just in time for an intimate outdoor wedding) of the bride’s parents, Will and Katherine Duplantis. The bride, dressed in a gorgeous lace and organza gown, was accompanied by best friend Morgan Fontenot. Destin looked dashing in a navy suit with a grey vest and burgundy bow tie. Standing with him was his brother and friend, Drake McIntosh. Vesper Duplantis, niece of the bride, served as flower girl while Jackson Bonds, cousin of the groom, took on the role of ring bearer. It was a beautiful backyard ceremony with lights and white flowers over a pergola where they exchanged vows. Guests then enjoyed Mexican food from Los Cucos and dancing. In attendance were close family and friends including the bride’s twin bother, Kellan Duplantis with his girlfriend, Martha Ellis, Chase and Manika Duplantis, the bride’s aunt Sheri Zehner and uncle Charley Soderbergh, Aline Creed, Kathy and Bob Fontenot, Kelly McKenzie, Sam Large, Jessika Hustdet, Debbie Wilson, Joy McMurray, Jane Skillman and Tina Barber. Also in attendance were the groom’s grandparents, Sonny and June Bonds, Ron and Karen McIntosh and ‘honorary grands” Lloyd and Lynne Simpson, uncle Jonathan and Katherine McIntosh, uncle Tim and Stacie McIntosh, cousin Tanya Davis and great aunt Sophie Ray. Some of the groom’s friends were also present – Thomas Giovenco, Matthew Sheehan, Mike Borys, Chris and Janet Soto, Roger Sampson and Alexandria Frye. The wedding festivities continued onto the next day when we served a wedding brunch at Shannon and Phil’s beautiful home with a French toast bake, pastries, fruit and a potato and sausage casserole all washed down with a trio of mimosas – traditional, cranberry and blueberry. Best wishes to the happy couple, who are now on a honeymoon cruise!
