Q: Where can I celebrate the December holidays outdoors?

A: Celebrate the season by getting outdoors and enjoying the cooler weather every chance you get. Visit Mercer Botanic Gardens for the Holiday in the Gardens Festival and Market, Saturday, Dec. 14, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Snap a selfie with Santa and Mrs. Claus as they stroll through the decorated gardens, enjoy festive musical entertainment, and shop the holiday market. Then visit the children’s craft area and enjoy Storytime in the Gardens.

During this holiday celebration, be sure to wander through Mercer’s landscape to learn about plants that thrive in the Houston area throughout all seasons. You will find decorated Texas mountain laurels, tropical-looking palms and sculptural deciduous trees. Pay special attention to the evergreen camellias that are just coming into bloom with holiday colors. The winter display gardens will give you a peek at plants that look great from winter through springtime.

With plants that are native to worldwide locations, it’s like riding all over the world with Santa on Christmas Eve!
