Welcome back to Out and About... where you can find out what's happening in our community! The third annual Ladies Night Out "Diva Las Vegas" at the Humble Civic Center was quite a success, benefitting two good causes: Lone Star College-Kingwood Women's Endowment Fund and the Humble Area Chamber of Commerce! The amazing Ladies Night Out committee headed by Humble Area Chamber event diva Stephanie Biondolillo transformed the ball room into a casino/horse track (no, not real horses!), eating, pampering and shopping extravaganza! And of course there were the "Houston Men on Fire" – gorgeous firefighters autographing their calendar and posing for pictures! There were just too many divas to name, but some of the beautiful faces in the crowd: Lynn Fields; Judy Luquette; Nancy Shortsleeve; Devon Alexander; Diane Blanco; Ellen Fankell; Cheryl McGeough; Andrea Lee; Sharon Gould; Hildy Bubier; Kathy Mayeux; Debbie Esparza; Joanne Marchhart; Eileen Alexander; Robin Martinez; Rachael Waite; Tiffany Bauer; Carolyn McCarty; and Kathy Caves. It was a ghostly/ghoulish/gourmet night at Cheryl (C. J.) Johnson's inaugural Halloween party. The gourmet part was due to the creatively (ghoulish) catering by Cherie Ledoux?skeletal remains spread on the tables with ribs and other meats strategically placed, "fingers" garnished with gore and much more! Of course, costumes were required, and what a range of "alter egos" were "out and about" that evening: Marilyn Monroe (Tracy Stunja); Zorro (Bryan Carriere); and his Angel (Cindy Carriere); Pirates (Scott and Kelly Bourquin); Lord Chatterley and his gardener, (Christopher and Jill Curran), and of course, the Mayor and First Lady of Black Cat Ridge (Danny and Geralyn Sullivan). "Most original" costume went to "dirty old man" Nancy Foisner, who also won in the "funniest" category; hubby Richard Foisner won "best individual" and "scariest" categories as Beetlejuice. Best couple was a tie between Holly Oberst and Jim Cook as "King and Queen of Hearts" and Dwayne Ulrich and C. J. as "jailbird and policewoman." No one was surprised that gorgeous Denise Krieger was voted "sexiest" as an Avatar. Mark Linabury added to the fun as he came as a '70s DJ and played great music all night long. It was all treats and no tricks as Amedeo's hosted the Oct. 30 Jazz Night, with crowd favorite performers Sharon Montgomery and Charlene Wright. It is a wonderful party each month, with many good friends filling Amedeo's and enjoying the great food and hospitality of Tony and Leslie Raffa and Beth Duncan, who greet everyone, and make sure it's a wonderful evening. Just some of those enjoying the music and dinner: Eunice and Rod Dennis; Gene and Diane Kirsch; Gary and Theo Christman; Ted and Diana Price; Robert and Nancy Dillard; Dr. Martin Basaldua; Howard Pitman; Owen and Mary Ruth Jones; Ed and Peggy Glazier; Eileen Booher; Derold Maney; Bailey Dixon; Jack and Annette Wood; Ted and Diana Price; Robert and Nancy Dillard; Cheryl Johnson; Dwayne Ulrich; Paul and Denise Krieger; Gary Carriere; Phil and Karen Boughton; and Sparky Nolan. The November Jazz Night will be Thursday, Nov. 20; reservations recommended. Tony Raffa and Chef David Welch recently teamed up with the American Heart Association to host a delicious, low-fat, heart-healthy wine dinner at Raffa's. If that sounds like a contradiction in terms, it was definitely not. Kudos to Tony and David, who put together an amazing presentation of appetizer, salad, venison and coconut custard with fresh mango, for a total of around 600 calories-- if you ate everything on your plate! These were all accompanied by the just the right wine, thanks to Robert Gilroy, the wine representative. Enjoying this wonderful evening and supporting American Heart Association: Randy and Nancy McCollum; David and Caroline Smith, with son Sean and his lovely date, Shannon; Ted and Diana Price; Karen Boughton; Derold Maney; John, Ann and Megan Crawford; Lindsey Mulholland. What a good time to remind you that the annual American Heart Association Walk will be Saturday, Nov. 15, at Lone Star College-Kingwood; registration and warm up begin at 8; the walk starts at 9 a.m. This is a fun-filled, family event, with great activities for the kids, good food and a kick start for your heart! The event is free, but donations to the American Heart Association will be appreciated. I hope to see all of you there! It was a "virtual" travel fantasy as Kingwood Travel exec Sharon Lewis and her team hosted an extravaganza of food and wine from Texas to California and Hawaii; from Australia to Greece, Italy, France, Spain, and Holland –whew – what a trip – and no jet lag! Faces in the crowd: Phil Lively; Milan and Julie Saunders; Alan and Nancy Jo Derby; Larry and Connie Jaeger; Mike Atchison; Robin Martinez; Dr. Claude Larose; Robert Scarfo; Cherie Ledoux; Skip and Vivian Curry. Biker Babes and Dudes – here's an opportunity to ride for a good cause: Saturday, Nov. 22: Hoot County Saloon, 444 FM 1960 Bypass E in Humble; registration begins at 11; race starts at 12:30 p.m.; $25 per rider; $10 per extra passenger. There'll also be barbecue, contests, auction, music, fun and prizes – benefitting FamilyTime Crisis and Counseling Center "Stop the Violence" programs. Even if you aren't a biker, this is a great cause, and will be a lot of fun?a great way to spend your Saturday before Thanksgiving!
