Welcome back to Out and About … where you can find out what’s happening in our community. Judy Thigpen opened her lovely Lake Houston home to host a gathering of FamilyTime Women of Achievement (WOA) Alumni, co-hosted by Evelyn Walters. WOA Pat Guard took some great pictures throughout the evening, including a group photo with WOA canine “Dusty”, who enjoyed this moment of fame. Beautiful and accomplished faces in the crowd: Molly Webb; Judy Hopkins; Joan Imperato; Eunice Dennis; Freda Monk; Pat Chandler; Halene Crossman; Dr. Susan Lunson; Paula Beste; Su Duggan; Norma O’Donnell; Millie Garrison; Betsy Gould; Dr. Melissa Young; Cheryl Burnett; Aggie Green; Ellen Delap; Tamara Phallan, Juanita Zavalla, and many others. The defining moment of the evening occurred when Dwayne Ulrich serenaded the women with his original musical tribute, “You’re Women of Achievement.” Since 1990 our community has recognized nearly 300 outstanding women in several categories, ranging from Advocate to Visionary. Nominations for 2010 WOA will be accepted in October, and the annual WOA gala will be held Jan. 29, 2011. For more information contact FamilyTime at 281-446-2615. Once again our generous community came together to support a worthy cause, raising over $25,000 for 16-year-old Rachel Zientek who was seriously injured in a plane crash in Alaska. Give credit to IBBC, Itty Bitty Charity Committee members: Daniel and Cherrie Ledoux, Cheryl “CJ” Johnson, Tony Austin, Karen Boughton, Denise Krieger, Robin Martinez and Doug Stanley for pulling out all the stops for this great day. Café Dubois owner William Trout and Manager/Sommelier Tyler Hewitt opened the restaurant for Rachel and her family (dad is HPD Officer Mike Zientek) to cool off and relax. Former Congressman Jack Fields and wife Lynn were among those who came to greet Rachel. Jeweler extraordinaire Thomas Markle recently hosted a lovely event featuring the newest of Konstantino jewelry designs. The Kingwood location was the first stop of three for this one of a kind collection. Faces in the elegant crowd of bling connoisseurs: Cathy Parsons; Jim and Marilyn Harkrider; Jeremy and Tina Summers; Karyn Brenza, Cindy Brenza; Chris Parker. Cheryl McGeough, Kathy Mayeux, and Ellen Fankel sailed through their 50th together in style, spending the night in Kemah, and taking a sailing lesson on the bay with Captain DaveMcCabe and member Debbie Hughes, along with a few good “mateys”: Hildy Bubier, Devon Alexander, Sharon Gould, and Andrea Lee. McCabe and Hughes are also part of a wonderful organization, Hearts of Sailing, that provides sailing opportunities and fun for people with disabilities. A few days later, Kathy flew to Switzerland to babysit brother Kevin’s children while he traveled to Spain to run with the bulls! Don’t miss this Friday night’s Keller Williams NE free Concert at Kings Harbor. Enjoy Clear Lake resident Kelly McGuire and a musical evening ranging from calypso to folk and rock.
