The Kingwood girls’ soccer team keeps rolling along, opening District 21-6A play with three victories. Now 12-1-1 overall for the 2018 season, the Lady Mustangs defeated Channelview, 8-0, on the road Saturday to make it three in a row as the curtain rose on league play.
Eight different players scored goals on Saturday. Colleen Feagins got the scoring started and later added two assists. Carly Stroud, Alison Kim, Bailey Herring and Savannah Moore followed with goals before McKenzie Borchers, Jade Talsma and Lily Van Meter tallied the final scores for Kingwood.
Rachel Guilfoyle, Katie Rook, Elizabeth Perry, Jenelle Dumais, and Sam Arrollado all provided assists for the Lady Mustangs.
Kingwood opened district play with a 1-0 victory over Atascocita. An early goal from Alex Dumais, assisted by Emma Ebert, stood up because of outstanding defensive play and a solid effort from goalkeeper Mikayla Carlos.
Keeping the momentum going, the Lady Mustangs scored a 6-1 road victory at Goose Creek Memorial. Kingwood rolled to a 4-0 halftime lead with Feagins scoring twice and adding an assist to help lead the way.
Kingwood also got goals from Cat Childs, Rook, Ebert and Dumais, with assists from Childs, Ebert, and Stroud.
The Lady Mustangs are at Turner Stadium this week, hosting North Shore on Tuesday before taking on Summer Creek on Friday as the visitors.
Kingwood hosts Baytown Sterling on Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Turner Stadium before visiting C.E. King on Friday, Feb. 23. All matches are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
