Written by Community Reports
Regardless of where the road takes you this season, most of us can agree nothing makes a vacation more memorable than adventures that include fun, friendly animals!
From cuddly camelids to tropical birds and more, here are a few unique animals vacationers can meet during their travels this year.
Margarita the Spider Monkey at Las Lagunas Boutique Hotel
A short drive away from the magnificent Tikal, Uaxactún and Yaxhá ruins, Las Lagunas Boutique Hotel offers more than 300+acres of lush, private reserve that focuses in the conservation of Guatemala’s native species. With 19 bungalow suites hovering over the Quexil Lagoon, the eco-luxe property offers guests a boat ride to Monkey Island, just beyond the lagoon, for the opportunity to admire the spider monkeys hanging from the trees and even feed them fruits and vegetables for breakfast! One spider monkey in specific — known as Margarita — swings from branch to branch just to make an appearance each time the boat passes by. Not only does she wave hello, but Margarita hops right on the boat to meet and greet guests and pose for pictures with them — she also stocks up on food for the day, but who’s judging?
